Caldera poster (2015)

(2015) painted poster

While in a choreographic residence with Tahni Holt at Caldera in the south eastern mountains of Oregon for a month, I decided that the stunning landscape I had found myself in, compelled me to paint in my down time and I created this fifteen by seven foot painted poster. The text that fills this work is taken from a nineteenth century elementary school primer that I found in the library at Caldera. I was struck by the writing in this primer as it was confronting the child who has grown up in the city and assumed that this child would have virtually no understanding of nature or farm creatures and a more rural life experience. Taking inspiration from a poster I created while in Lisbon Portugal which also used text to create the entire design. This work is yet to find a permanent home to this day. When the right location shows itself, I will add this work to the world.

Capitol Hill Web Series (2015)

(2015) acted and created set paintings.

Invited by Wes Hurley to contribute to his film creations. I both painted set pieces, and had a spot appearance acting as a thief for this filmed series.

Episode 1

Mid paste (2015)

(2015) Visual art poster Lisbon.

Pondering the actions of humans, while wandering the streets of a country that has in the not so distant past, used the activism of public art as a means to support and spark revolution. Poster reads “Man’s Inhumanity to Man”.

Forgotten Arch (2015)

(2015) Visual art poster. Lisbon.

Always looking to blend or camouflage work into its surroundings. This approach might buy the work a little more time on the street, or it may not. The reality of not only street art being ephemeral but everything slowly crumbling before our eyes is a beautiful thing to observe.

Rainbow and Kris’ Quilt (2013)

(2013) wedding quilt

Initially I was asked to create a backdrop for wedding attendees to use for taking photographs. I couldn’t just make something that was going to only have one use, so the backdrop turned into a wedding quilt gift complete with a portrait of the bride and groom. This was my second quilt of the year, but by far the most complicated sewing project I have ever undertaken. The size is 10’x7’ and is built from eleven different colors cut and stitched down piece by piece.

USA Flag/pool (2013)

(2013) spray paint set piece

Commissioned by Spectrum Dance Theatre and Donald Byrd for his work A CRUEL NEW WORLD/the new normal. I had never drawn or painted the American flag before this and probably never will after. I was happy that when I did find myself creating this set piece, it was to help represent America in performance for what it is, a land known for taking advantage of the less fortunate. I greatly respect Donald for his activism through dance and performance, it was a privilege to create this work for him.

Yes (2013) film

(2013) film collaboration with musician

I have collected hundreds of short stop motion animations since I started exploring stop motion in 2005. My aim was first to explore movement, environment, light, texture and eventually sound. This is the first, in a way culmination of these experiments. I met Rulon Brown and asked him if he would be interested in composing a little score for this short animation. I love this short animation, there are no expectations, just a moment of creativity, alive with ambiguous meaning. If you are a creator of sounds and would like to create a score for one of these animations, I have a whole basket of works yet to be paired with sounds. Send me an email: baldmanwatching@yahoo.com and let’s get this collaboration happening.

Velocity Bald (2012)

(2012) Mural, Velocity’s Fall Kick-Off, Velocity Dance Center, Seattle WA.

Mural painted live as part of Velocity’s Fall Kick-Off. This mural lines the walls of the entryway into Velocity when attending a performance. Designed and painted on the spot, this mural took about eight hours to paint.

In 2018 repairs and slight changes were added as Velocity was refurbishing their performance space.

La Boca (2012)

(2012) Mural, Neighborhood of La Boca, Buenos Aires Argentina.

Mural painted as a gift to the neighborhood of La Boca. Walking through Buenos Aires I was approached and asked if I was a painter (my pants had paint splatters all over them). When I said yes, I was presented with this wall and asked if I wanted to paint something, of course I said yes. For three days I painted on a very precarious ladder, while kids blew up firecrackers, little grandmothers fed kittens, and the whole neighborhood collected by me to watch this mural take shape. It was an amazing experience.

STar (2012)

(2012) Mural

Commissioned by Sound Transit for display on Capital Hills’ former red wall around the construction site of the light rail station. For the holidays, ten artists were paired with ten nonprofit organizations to create a work of art on a holiday star. I was paired with Velocity Dance Center. I created this geometric line pattern using painter’s tape and acrylic paint.
